XTB Review: Fees, Platform, and Who It's Best For

A publicly listed, multi-regulated broker with commission-free stock investing and a large CFD offering — here's how XTB's two sides actually work.

A European broker with a public listing

XTB was founded in Poland in 2002 and is headquartered in Warsaw, where it's also publicly listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange under its own ticker — a level of public financial disclosure that not every broker offers. Over two decades, it's grown into a multi-regulated broker serving retail investors across Europe and beyond.

Two products under one roof

XTB splits fairly cleanly into two offerings. On one side, it offers real stock and ETF investing, commission-free up to a monthly trading volume of €100,000, with a 0.2% fee applying above that threshold — comfortably enough headroom for the overwhelming majority of individual investors. On the other side, it offers CFDs across more than 5,400 instruments, including forex, indices, and commodities, priced through spreads rather than commissions for retail accounts.

  • The commission-free stock and ETF tier is likely the more relevant one for long-term, buy-and-hold investors.
  • CFDs are leveraged derivative products, and regulatory disclosures commonly note that a majority of retail accounts lose money trading them.
  • A $250 minimum deposit is required to open an account.

The platform: xStation 5

XTB's proprietary platform, xStation 5, is available on web, desktop, and mobile, and is generally well regarded for its charting tools and usability, particularly for CFD and forex trading. MetaTrader 4 is also available for traders who prefer that industry-standard platform instead.

Regulation across several jurisdictions

XTB operates under oversight from the FCA in the UK, Poland's KNF, Cyprus's CySEC, Belize's IFSC, South Africa's FSCA, and the DFSA in the UAE, among others — again, exactly which regulator and investor protection scheme applies depends on which entity your specific account is opened with.

XTB's commission-free stock tier and its CFD offering are genuinely different products wearing the same login screen — worth treating them, and their very different risk levels, as separate decisions rather than one package deal.

Who it's for

XTB suits European investors who want commission-free stock and ETF investing alongside optional access to a wide range of CFD and forex products in the same account, and who take the time to understand that CFDs carry meaningfully higher risk than straightforward share ownership. Investors who only want simple stock and ETF investing, with no interest in leveraged trading at all, may prefer a broker built around that alone.
